String - They use vibrating strings to make sound. 
Example: violin, guitar, ukulele

Woodwind - They are made with long hollow pipes out of wood, metal or brass.
Example: clarinet, flute, saxophone

Brass - They are known as wind instruments made of metal or brass with cup shaped mouthpiece.
Example: trumpet, tuba, trombone

Percussion - They make sound when they are shaken, strucked, plucked or rubbed.
Examples: rattles, xylophone, cymbals
